Frenkie De Jong has been an oasis in the desert for Barcelona this season. With so many futile transfers, bad business decisions and underwhelming performances from big-money transfers in the past few seasons, Frenkie is kind of a breath of fresh air. He is one player who’s still going to be a Barcelona key player 6–7 years from now, and one of the best players in the world. The kid is amazing and still has so much potential to grow into. Simply put, he is a generational talent, and we are fortunate that he joined Barcelona at a young age. He can grow into the club’s culture and be there for the team after Messi retires in a few years.
It’s only his first season, and he already is one of the best players on the field. In terms of performances, he is consistently great and useful for the team every game, and he is only 22 years old. That is huge praise for a player at that age, who is playing for such a big club, in an environment so filled with pressure.
FC Barcelona had huge problems with out midfield in the last few seasons. Busquets exited his prime, and Arthur didn’t get enough minutes to actually lay down his mark. Rakitic is simply not at the level required for such a big club, and Paulinho was never going to be a long-term solution. The midfield was more or less a mess, until he arrived this summer. He rejuvenated our midfield, and he deserves a lot of praise for that. He has an amazing vision on the pitch, and can pass the ball extremely well. Messi doesn’t have to drop that deep anymore, because he has Frenkie to feed balls to the offense, and that is simply great. He is certainly on the right path to become a great midfielder for Barcelona. The confidence he has on the ball is amazing, and it’s a relief to finally have a midfielder that constantly wants the ball at his feet, and looks to create chances.
He’s got everything FC Barcelona wanted when they transferred him last year. The fact that he impressed right from the start shows the type of player he is. If the board will bring some good young players around him, in order to build a new team Barcelona fortune might turn around.
