Fonepay experienced server issues after the much-anticipated Flash Sale began at 1:00 p.m. today November 19, 2021.
Fonepay is Nepal’s leading digital payment processor, and it is integrated with Esewa and well almost all mobile banking apps in Nepal for processing merchant and banking payments, particularly through QR codes.
Fonepay introduced the reward system years ago in which users are able to earn one point for every Rs.100 payment made to merchants using a QR Code Scanner (conditions applied).
Although Fonepay has been providing reward points to users as a loyalty program, they have never had such high reward prices as the current Flash Sale.
The current Fonepay flash sales featured Holiday Packages from different Hotels and a variety of electronic items such as the Redmi Note 10, RiceCooker, Hand Blender, Power Bank, Earphones, and other products that can be redeemed with Fonepay points.
The flash sale was supposed to begin today at 1:00 PM, but right after it began, the rewards section of the app became stuck on the loading screen and the app crashed. This went on for more than two hours, after which all of the sale items were gone and people were outraged.
Fonepay received backlash on Twitter from many users who claimed that ‘Fonepay scammed with the Flash Sales’ as no users were able to redeem their Fonepay points and customer support was not responding to user inquiries.
The Fonepay Rewards app rating on Google Play Store gradually decreased due to a high number of one-star ratings.
After 4 hours of silence, Fonepay finally announced that they were experiencing technical difficulties and would be postponing the flash sale.
The scheduled Flash Sale for today has been postponed until further notice. Due to the overwhelming response, we unfortunately faced some difficulties with the fonepay offer app. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
