At 15 years old, Taylor Swift was the youngest songwriter to ever sign with Sony. She now has 10 Grammys, is worth an estimated $400 million and is one of this generation’s biggest and most famous musicians and celebrities.

Here are 10 of the most interesting facts about Taylor Swift some of her fans might not know.

1. Swifty grew up on a Christmas tree farm.

While kicking off the promotion cycle for 1989 in the fall of 2014, Swift opened up to former Esquire writer Scott Raab about how the environment of her childhood impacted her love for the holidays. “It was such a weird place to grow up,” she said. “But it has cemented in me this unnatural level of excitement about fall and then the holiday season. My friends are so sick of me talking about autumn coming. They’re like, ‘What are you, an elf?’”

2. She started early

By the age of 10, Swift was singing at a variety of local events, including fairs and contests. She sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game at the age of 11 and also won a local talent competition singing LeAnn Rimes song ‘Big Deal’.

3. She was taught how to play guitar by a computer repairman at the age of 12.

She says “…A guy who my parents had hired to come fix my computer…I’m doing my homework and he looks over and see the guitar in the corner and he was like…do you play guitar? And I was like oh..no! I try but I… And he said, do you want me to teach you a few chords? And I was like yeah! Yess! and that was that. I was just relentless about wanting to play all the time.”

In 2003, Taylor Swift was chosen for Abercrombie’s Rising Stars campaign just like fellow stars Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Roberts and Ashton Kutcher.

At the time she was a no-name teenager from small-town Pennsylvania.

Over the years, Taylor Swift has had time to score some movie roles. In 2010, she made her film debut as Felicia Miller in Valentine’s Day alongside A–list actors like Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher, and Julia Roberts. Her other roles are as Haley Jones in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2009), as Herself in Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) and in three other roles.

Swift is also a real-estate mogul — owning homes in four different states from California to New York, and they’re worth a total of $81 million. She was also spotted looking at real estate in London in the $30 million price range last August, reported Page Six . Swift reportedly wants to be near her boyfriend of three years, British actor Joe Alwyn.

8. 13 is her favourite number

She explained to MTV News in 2009. “I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My first album [Taylor Swift] went gold in 13 weeks. My first #1 song had a 13-second intro. Every time I’ve won an award I’ve been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section or row M, which is the 13th letter. Basically whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it’s a good thing.”

9. Her first job was debugging Christmas trees on her family’s farm.

“We all had jobs,” Taylor told Vogue, “Mine was picking the praying mantis pods off of the trees, collecting them so that the bugs wouldn’t hatch inside people’s houses.”
